Additional works to do on new turf pitch

Male', MALDIVES - FAM has revealed that new turf pitch will not be available for Ramadan and added the work to be done to complete the practice pitch has been increased due to the usage of the carpet without appropriate sand.

General Secretary Addo said the work has been divided into several phases and these phases will not be completed by Ramadan.

He also added the pitch has not been completed due to the long process of ordering the appropriate sand approved by the company that does the pitch work.

‘We have received samples of the sand from an Indian company and a German company. There is not much variation in the price’ He said.

‘Due to the usage of carpet without sand has doubled the work to be done’

Addo also stated the company that did turf pitch will give a 15 year warranty and because of that they (FAM) should use sands approved by the company.

‘They give 15 years warranty so we have to use sand approved by them. This new pitch is a replacement of the old one’ He said.

FAM has also now concentrating more on installing a proper lighting system to make the old pitch useful for night practices. According to Addo the lighting system will cost them around Mrf.700,000 (aprox US$ 54,500).

He further added FAM is also in process of gathering Mrf 500,000 to 600,000 to buy sand for the pitch.
